Sergi Ferrer

Political Science

Welcome to my website!

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the ERC Starting Grant project "DEMOTRADEOFF" at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), which analyzes democratic trade-offs and how these might fuel political discontent. I am also research fellow at the Democracy, Elections, and Citizenship (DEC) research group and teaching fellow at the Open University of Catalonia

I completed a PhD in Political Science at the University of Barcelona in 2022. Since I started my academic journey, I have been visiting researcher at the Quality of Government Institute, University of Gothenburg (Fall 2021) and visiting fellow at the Mannheim Center for European Social Research (MZES, May 2024).

My main research interests include political behavior, democratic attitudes, accountability, and party systems, with a particular focus on causal identification and research methods. Parts of my dissertation, entitled "How Changing Party Systems Shape the Functioning of Democracy", have been published in Party Politics and Local Government Studies.

If you want to know more about my research, you can navigate this website or reach me out at sergi.ferrer.juan@uab.cat or connect via Bluesky or Twitter.
